India's top IT firms such as Wipro, Accenture, and Tech Mahindra have agreed to honor offers made to new hires in the recruitment process for 2020. As the outbreak of COVID-19 has disrupted businesses around the world, large IT companies such as Infosys, TCS and Mindtree do not honor the recruitment 2020 job offers they have already made, but some companies such as Wipro, Accenture, and Tech Mahindra have decided to honor offers made to new hires, the Economic Times reported.
These companies have already started on-boarding recruits virtually – which includes both "laterals" and fresh graduates for recruitment 2020.
Worth noting here is that the IT industry is one of India's biggest employers with 45 lakh people working across the country in various IT firms. This sector employs almost 20,000 workers a month. In FY20 the industry hired 205,000 new employees, according to Nasscom.
Harshvendra Soin, Chief People Officer of Tech Mahindra told the business journal, "COVID-19 outbreak remains a serious concern for businesses globally. All offer letters released must be accepted in terms of the recruiting of lateral hires and management trainees.
Likewise, Wipro has confirmed that it will honor all candidates' letters of offer.
Nevertheless, IT behemoths like Infosys, TCS, and Mindtree are non-committal about the offers they have already made, as stated in the publication.
"One of the challenges they could face is addressing e-onboarding logistics and security issues... Enabling new hires would be a challenge for BYOD (Bring Your Own Device),' he said.
However, online onboarding has been initiated by Accenture, Tech Mahindra, and Wipro and the IT backend support for recruitment 2020 is in place.
Kamal Karanth, co-founder, Xpheno said to the publication, "Some companies honor the offer commitments, while others either postpone the date of entry or ask the individual to remain in the current jobs for the time being; sometimes even pay them a month's salary."
